About WRAP
The WRAP Audit Program is an initiative that aims to promote responsible waste management practices globally. It achieves this goal by conducting comprehensive assessments of facilities that engage in recycling, treatment, storage, or disposal of waste or spent materials. These evaluations are critical in identifying areas where waste management facilities can improve their environmental management and risk mitigation strategies.
The program’s mission is to collect and pool environmental management and risk data from waste management facilities that are of interest to its member entities. By pooling resources, the program enables its members to gain access to valuable information that would otherwise be challenging to obtain individually. This data is crucial in guiding the decision-making process of the members concerning their waste management strategies.
To ensure that the program remains relevant and useful to its members, it conducts an annual selection process called the Nomination and Commitment Phases. During this period, members can nominate facilities for review, and the program committee selects the most appropriate facilities for evaluation. This process ensures that the program focuses on waste management facilities that are of the most significant interest to its members.
Once the facilities have been selected, they undergo review by a WRAP contractor during the following FRP calendar year. The contractor conducts a comprehensive assessment of the facility’s environmental management and risk mitigation strategies, and the results are documented in a report. The costs of these reports, called shared cost price reviews, are determined before the start of each program year.
After purchasing the relevant reports, members independently analyze the results reported utilizing their own environmental stewardship criteria. This analysis enables them to make informed decisions regarding their waste management strategies based on the results of the evaluation.
The WRAP Audit Program plays a crucial role in promoting responsible waste management practices globally. It achieves this by collecting and pooling environmental management and risk data from waste management facilities of interest to its members. This information is then used by members to make informed decisions concerning their waste management strategies.
